Flight 1/4.
Relatively misty, deep copper beer with lively, regular-duration carbonation frees an off-white, velvety head that fails to reach half a finger's height. The foamy lid melts quickly down to a neat lace ring on top only. The glass is left untouched after the withdrawing foam.
The fragrance is lovely: some toffee, bags of caramel fudge and sweet nut constitute the skeleton of the gustatory offer. I can also detect raisin and sweet biscuit dough.
The taste is stronger and boozier than I expected. The same raisin, caramel and nut make their way forward to the tongue but with a distinctly bittercrisp tang. Sweet oat bread whirls with a tad dry hops, a good amount of caramel malt and a generous heap of spruce needles accompany in the immediate proximity. Alcohol doesn't hide at all.
The body is medium-full. The beer ends with rather sharp, bitter caramel and oat biscuit, a bit of raisin, a citrusy punch and a strong boozy kick. The aftertaste keeps the tastebuds alert for a reasonably lengthy time.
The mouthfeel is strong, somewhat boozy, crisp and even sharp to some extent. It's also coniferous, a bit lip-glueing but intriguingly also smooth. Old-school with nice slap on the face! I obviously deserve it!
