This is not as much a beer as it is an experience. Originally brewed for Ebenezer’s Pub in Lovell, Maine (USA), this beer is a tribute to Albert II, sixth king of the Belgians. Nicknamed ‘laughing king’, it is only fitting that the beer named after him should put a big smile on your face. And we can safely say it does. This big mother of a Russian Imperial Stout is often considered one of our true classics.
Despite the 13% ABV, you’ll find Black Albert to be dangerously drinkable. With its thick, tar-like body, it’s definitely a sipper, but the alcohol is very well-hidden. It pours pitch black and retains a strong caramel-colored head, despite the ABV. Every sip bombards you with roasty bitterness and the unique sweetness of real Belgian candy sugar. Nightcap. Vintage 2024. Opaque, medium-black is the appearance. Timid carbonation. A beautiful tan head that falls short of one finger. The foam shrinks only marginally and embellishes the surface for a long time.
Sweet licorice, roasted malt and molasses wobble to my nose. Attractive although quite predictable.
The taste releases copious licorice, roasted malt, a bit of burned sugar and harsher molasses. Overall, the experience is sweet-leaning.
The body is medium-full or even a bit less. The ABV clocks a whopping 13 %, therefore, the body is not particularly impressive. The tail continues on the sweet path but spots increasingly also burned elements here and there.
The mouthfeel is medium-full, deep, lip-glueing, roasty and a bit candy-like.

Ohuen oranssisen läpikuultavan sysimustaa ja sameahkoa. Vähäinen, rusehtava ja pienikuplainen vaahto.
Tuoksu on runsas: maukkaan, makean ja ohuen paahteisen tumman maltainen, makean tumman siirappinen ja poltetun sokerinen, makean ja kirpakan hedelmäinen (omenaa, päärynää, luumua, rusinaa), kepeän belgihiivaisen aromaattinen, punaviinimäinen ja puumaisen tynnyrinen. Oikein hyvä tuoksu!
Maku runsaan, maukkaan, makean ja kevyen paahteisen tumman maltainen, paahteisen kahvinen ja tumman suklainen, makean tumman siirappinen ja poltetun sokerinen, makeahkon ja kirpakan hedelmäinen (omenaa, päärynää, rusinaa), belgihiivaisen aromaattinen ja mausteinen, runsaan puumaisen tynnyrinen ja punaviinimäinen sekä selkeän katkera.
Hyvät, runsaat, monivivahteiset ja verrattain tasapainoiset maut. Suutuntuma on runsahko, kuivakka, melko täyteläinen ja vähähiilihappoinen.
Oikein maukas, hyvin monivivahteinen ja mielenkiintoinen nautiskeluolut. Saattaisi hyötyä myös pienestä kypsyttelystä, jotta runsas puumaisuus ja mausteisuus tasottuisi ja kokonaisuus pehmenisi...

Oiva olut ruuan valmistuksen kylkeen.. ei tule hörpittyä liian isoja kulauksia 😅
Aika perus stouttia minusta. Jotain lievää makean paahteisuutta ja sit turhan äkäset katkerot ainakin tähän.. hyvin on alkomaholi piilossa mut lämmittää kyl vähän 😊
