Bitter and Juicy, Switzerland
4.3
Tasting set 3/3. Semifoggy, deep golden beer with a snow-white, fluffy head that remains below one finger's height. The retreating foam leaves horizontal, downpouring patterns on the wall of the glass. This brew evidences one more direction in which to go: colossal fruity juice, predominantly blood grapefruit, bitter orange and a wee dollop of regular orange. Some lemon zest and more distant pineapple feature in the background. The palate is strongly hoppy but simultaneously also truly fruity. The fruit of the fragrance have, however, lost some of the zestiness and gained, instead, somewhat drier, pinier characteristics. I'm receiving particularly strong lemon peel, much more remote lemon pulp, grapefruit and a vanishing note of lemongrass. Overall, harsh juniper needles and quite a dollop of resin season the palate sharper. After the two high-alcohol beers (ABVs = 11% and 10%), this beer (ABV = 8.5%) is more like breakfast juice. The body is medium-full to full. The aftertaste builds a strong, sharp, even edgy impression on the tongue. The taste is flavored by bags of mouth-drying spruce and juniper, a lot of grated lemon peel as well as a good injection of resin. The finish tickles the taste receptors for considerably long. The mouthfeel is strong, rather sharp and somewhat edgy. The coniferous impression merges with a good degree of tropical juiciness. This must be my best tasting ever if measured with the average ratings (= 4.77).
