2018 vintage. Sweet potato, whiskey and spices in the aroma. Taste has sweet potatoes first, followed by rye whiskey, cinnamon and nutmeg. Not really getting the lactose that's supposed to be there. Great, tasty beer. 4.5/5

This is a bottle from last year (9-27-2017). I will try a 2018 bottle at some point. Whiskey is first in the aroma, followed by sweet potatoes, cinnamon, nutmeg and a vanilla-like sweetness, presumably the lactose. Taste has sweet potatoes first, immediately followed by whiskey, cinnamon and nutmeg. The lactose is more of an after thought in the taste, but it's still there. I'm really enjoying this one. Very well done. Every flavor compliments the next, and no one flavor dominates the beer. Now I kind of wish I'd done a side by side review with this year's version, but I guess that won't be happening. Oh well. This is an A beer for sure. Only thing I'd change is more emphasis on the rye spiciness that's advertised in the name. It's barely there, but I don't want a ton of it, just some more. Medium-full body with an appropriately lower carbonation, being an 11% abv barrel aged beer. I'll give this a 4.5/5 This was already pretty warm, but as it warms more the rye spiciness is building. Still not quite where I feel it could/should be, but it's there. For what this is advertised to be, along with the enjoyment of my taste buds, this is an A beer, almost an A+, but not quite. Still a 4.5/5

Sweet potato, rye spiciness and bourbon are done well in this one. Very tasty. As this warms, the balance between the flavors becomes even more wonderful. 4/5
